Darcy Salinger

During my 11 years in commercial banking, I had the opportunity to learn a great deal about credit and the opportunities it offers when it’s easily accessible. However, having started my career in the microfinance sector, I had always had the intention of returning some day to more socially motivated work. I came to Root Capital intrigued by its focus on improving livelihoods in rural communities and commitment to a positive environmental impact alongside its work to expand access to finance. Today, I manage Root Capital’s credit risk management function, which includes credit policy, underwriting standards and tools, credit administration, and collections and workout.  I’m excited about the improvements we’re working on every day to be best in class lenders to a sector that has the potential to bring about great social impact but can be challenging to serve, given the inherent risks of agriculture, as well as some of the markets where we work. I spend most of my free time trying to figure out how to use it wisely, because I have so many things that I love to do: making jewelry, knitting, quiltmaking, cooking, and drawing, to name a few! However, right now my number one priority is spending time with my grandson: most weekends, we can be found at a Boston area institution such as the Museum of Science or the Franklin Park Zoo.
