We are pleased to present Root Capital’s 2025 Annual Report. 2025 was a year of external shocks – unpredictable markets, geopolitical upheaval, tighter funding landscapes, and intensifying climate stresses. As difficult as these shocks were, they aren’t unique. The agriculture sector is sensitive to many external factors and faces these kinds of challenges consistently. Navigating these circumstances will become even more crucial as climate change will make farming more unpredictable and markets less stable. This makes accessible financing all the more important.

Root Capital is dedicated to making sure our clients can face any issues that come their way, and we continued to do so last year. For example, to help our clients invest in climate adaptation, we broke our climate record by disbursing $2.37M in climate finance.

In 2025:

  • We disbursed $176.8 million of capital to our agri-SME clients, raising incomes and creating opportunities for more than 441,000 smallholder farmers.
  • We piloted new advisory tools for Climate Action, Women in Agriculture, and Next Generation Jobs.
  • We validated our climate financing via a multi-year impact study. We found that businesses that received Root Capital climate loans increased their climate resilience by 22% compared to those who did not.
  • We prepared clients in Peru, Colombia, Rwanda and Uganda for upcoming international market regulations through technical partnerships and advisory services.
  • We verified our Savings and Credit Cooperative Organization (SACCO) Development Program successfully expands credit and savings access for rural communities, thanks to a second impact evaluation in Uganda, Rwanda, and Kenya.

These stories show that despite the challenges of their sector, rural farmers are eager and ready to deepen investment in a sustainable future. Read more in our 2025 Annual Report.
