Rumu SarkarGeneral Counsel
As Root Capital’s General Counsel, I provide legal advice at all levels of the organization. Working across more than a dozen countries, I work to facilitate transactions, advise Root Capital leadership, oversee enterprise risk, improve internal structures for legal compliance, and serve as a key resource in the development of new business initiatives.
Over more than two decades working in international development, I’ve executed complex financings of international development projects, and I’m grateful to have the opportunity to do the same at Root Capital in support of rural communities. Prior to joining the organization, I worked for international development organizations including USAID and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation. Most recently, I served as the General Counsel for Millennium Partners. I hold a B.A. in Political Science from Barnard College, a J.D. from Antioch School of Law, and an Masters of Law (LL.M) and Ph.D. in Law & Philosophy from Newnham College, Cambridge University.
