Juan Taborda Burgos
Director, Impact Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL)
As Director of Impact Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning, Juan works across the organization to design, implement, and produce relevant studies that allow Root Capital to assess its impact, validate our theory of change, and evaluate new services or products. Prior to working for Root Capital, Juan led or coauthored impact evaluation studies in over 15 countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. He also held different positions for the Government of Colombia, working on local economic development or public innovation. What drew Juan to join Root Capital was the commitment to evidence-based decision making and rigorous impact assessment. Root Capital’s organizational culture accepts and responds to data and evidence, whether the evidence shows that an intervention is in fact resulting in positive impact or if it is found to be ineffective and transparently report and learn from these findings. Outside of work you probably find Juan hiking outdoors with his dog and family or cooking an elaborate meal (at least according to his spouse).
