Jennifer Banks AbreuGrant Writing Manager
When you combine an English major with an MSW, grantwriting and fundraising is bound to emerge, and that’s what happened to Jen. With her background in global development fundraising and having worked, traveled, and lived abroad for most of her professional life, Root Capital is a place where her professional and personal interests meet and she is excited and inspired to be a part of the Creative team.
Jen leads Root Capital’s grants and communications with institutional donors, translating the organization’s emerging strategies into compelling, tailored narratives for a donor audience and aligning the interests of potential funders with Root Capital’s needs. She collaborates closely with relationship managers, finance, operations, and program staff to oversee the development of high-quality proposals and other donor-facing communications, managing the work of the talented grant writing team.
While she spends much of her free time with her husband and five-year-old son, she enjoys taking quiet time in the kitchen whenever she can to experiment with new recipes and cuisines from cookbooks collected along her travels.
