Amy MullenChief Development Officer and Interim COO
Since early on in college, I knew that I wanted to work in nonprofits in order to explore my interests in global development and sustainable environmental management. As I began my career with the Sierra Club in 1998, I saw the important role that fundraising and donor stewardship played in the success of an organization and its ability to accomplish its mission. As I moved from Sierra Club to the Trust for Public Land, I decided that my contribution in mission-driven work would be through fundraising. While at the Trust for Public Land I focused on institutional fundraising and returned to school to pursue a graduate degree in International Studies, determined to revive my interest in international development. With this degree, I relocated to Boston to join Oxfam, where I led a team responsible for securing support for campaigning and advocacy both in the United States and around the globe and fundraising for both long-term development programs and humanitarian response.
At Root Capital, I lead a team of fundraising, investor relations, and communications professionals who are all committed to transforming rural communities through well-placed capital and training. I’m excited to work with the investor relations and communications teams to continue to build our capacity to meet the growing needs of Root Capital and our client businesses. When I’m not at work, I love to travel — whether it’s to a foreign country, to hike in the mountains of New England, or to visit family.
