Across Latin America, unpaid childcare is a primary barrier to women’s paid work in agriculture, yet care rarely features in how lenders and investors assess the agricultural enterprises they finance. Care4Ag, a 2026 pilot led by Root Capital and Kore Global, set out to learn about the business and impact case for childcare run by agricultural enterprises. It explores how these enterprises invest in care, and what that investment means for children, for women and for the enterprises themselves.
The pilot worked with three Costa Rican coffee enterprises that already run seasonal childcare centres for harvest families, known as Casas de la Alegría (Houses of Joy).
These profiles highlight each enterprise’s experience: what it has built, the triple win its Casas make possible for its community, and the funding needed to sustain them.
