Climate change is an existential crisis for smallholder farmers across the world. But with the right support, these rural communities can be powerful champions of climate action.

In 2020, Root Capital launched our Climate Resilience Roadmap, a six-year strategy to support urgent climate action in rural communities by building the resilience of agricultural enterprises serving smallholder farmers.

Now more than halfway through our strategy, we have made significant progress against our goals, providing climate advisory services and capital to almost 250 agricultural businesses benefiting more than half a million smallholder farmers.

Notable Progress

Financed 115 climate action leaders

Disbursed $67M in climate finance

Provided 123 businesses with agronomic and climate advisory services

Reached 562K farmers and employees

Root Capital launched our Climate Resilience Roadmap in 2020. Our overarching goal was to foster clients’ resilience by equipping them with the tools needed to confront the climate crisis. The Climate Resilience Roadmap describes how we plan to scale our own climate financing to businesses committed to climate action in rural communities; expand our climate resilience advisory services across our global portfolio; design and pilot new forms of climate finance; and share learnings with others to maximize impact.
