Root Capital is one of more than 1.8 million nonprofit organizations in the U.S. This National Nonprofit Day, we celebrate the work of nonprofits and acknowledge the far-reaching impact of the nonprofit sector. As a social impact lender and a nonprofit organization, we know firsthand that nonprofits are committed to making a difference each and every day. And we applaud the invaluable, ongoing efforts of nonprofits to serve communities around the world.
In honor of National Nonprofit Day, we are thrilled to announce the release of our 2021-2022 Biennial Report. 2021 and 2022 were important years for Root Capital as we continued to expand our reach and impact in underserved rural communities across Latin America, Southeast Asia, and Africa; we loaned $315.8M to more than 380 clients over the past two years. Internally, we strengthened our operational infrastructure, grew our staff significantly, and secured several key philanthropic contributions that bolstered our financial sustainability.
Our 2021-2022 biennial report commemorates all that we have achieved over the past two years. It showcases the rural communities where we work and the agricultural enterprises that sustain them.
