Rural communities face urgent and mounting threats. Climate change, gender inequity, grinding poverty, lack of opportunity for young people-these challenges can’t be solved by any one group. Complex solutions require the coordination and commitment of a global community of changemakers. Root Capital is pleased to announce the addition of two new members to our board of directors, Hans Muzoora and Scott Amero. Their collective expertise will help us in our mission to build resilience and prosperity in rural communities.

With nearly five decades of combined experience across the public and private sectors, Hans and Scott will help Root Capital forge new cross-sector partnerships while strengthening our organizational resilience. We encourage you to learn more about these two newest members of the board and join us in welcoming them to our community.

Hans Muzoora is an experienced market systems development professional with over 25 years of leadership in the international development field. Currently, he works as the Agriculture Finance Advisor with the USAID Bureau for Resilience and Food Security, supporting the agency’s efforts in mobilizing private finance for development. Using innovative solutions, he has helped empower farmers-including youth and women-in Africa (Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, and Swaziland) and Yemen. He has a proven track record of successfully engaging the private sector in agricultural value chains, like coffee and maize, to improve production and create jobs. Hans holds a Master of Arts in Sustainable International Development from The Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University. He is interested in sustainable agricultural development worldwide through the engagement of public and private sectors, technological innovation, and social responsibility. Originally from Uganda, Hans currently lives with his family in Boston, MA.

Scott Amero is the former Vice Chairman and Global Chief Investment Officer for Fixed Income of BlackRock. His career at BlackRock spanned from 1990 to 2010. During this time, BlackRock grew from a boutique investment firm with 20 employees to the largest investment management firm in the world. Scott earned a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics and Economics from Harvard University and a Master of Business Administration in Finance from New York University. He serves on the boards of Rare, Adventure Scientists, the Harbor Funds, The Nature Conservancy Massachusetts chapter, and the Harvard Kennedy School’s Mossavar-Rohmani Center for Business and Government.

About Root Capital
Root Capital is a nonprofit whose mission is to grow rural prosperity and build the resilience of farming families around the world. We supply small and growing agricultural businesses with vital credit and capacity building to foster their growth and resilience. With support these businesses can transform rural communities-raising incomes, creating jobs for the next generation of leaders, leveling the playing field for women, and taking urgent action against climate change. We work in hard-to-serve communities where others don’t. To date, we’ve distributed $1.7 billion to improve the lives of over 10 million people in farming families.
